I was amazed at how arid and parched the landscape was as we flew to California. The patterns in the earth were fascinating to see from the sky.
I loved the light on the skin of the ocean and the way we could see the kelp forest from the air.
San Diego.
I had an amazing jicama salad at a restaurant in the Gas Lamp district.
We had to hike down to the ocean and sink our feet in the sand.
The first thing I saw was a pod of dolphins swimming by. I was very excited to see them.

Corn maze
The early morning was crisp but all the kids were very excited to see each other and to see Grandma Jan.
We had a good trek through the corn maze and used the lookouts to help orient ourselves.
Georgia and Adlai really loved the corn pit.
Picnic lunch and petting zoo and a bouncy dome - what more do you need?
Tire-horses
And pumpkins.
